Spotify Brings Narrated Magazine Articles to Premium Users

The new Spotify narrated magazine articles feature is turning long-form journalism into an audio experience for Premium subscribers.
Spotify has added more than 650 narrated magazine articles to its platform, letting users listen to stories from publications like Rolling Stone, The Atlantic, Wired, Vogue, and Pitchfork alongside music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
Because apparently reading with your own eyes is starting to feel a little too manual now.

TL;DR

  • The new Spotify narrated articles feature adds audio versions of long-form magazine stories
  • Spotify partnered with publications including Wired, Rolling Stone, Vogue, and The Atlantic
  • Premium users can listen using their monthly audiobook hours
  • Free users can purchase narrated articles individually
  • Spotify says the feature is designed to make long-form audio more approachable

Spotify Is Expanding Beyond Music and Podcasts

The narrated articles are available in English and are produced by Spotify’s in-house audiobooks team.

Premium subscribers can access the feature as part of their existing audiobook allowance, which currently includes 15 listening hours per month. Free users can still access the content, but individual narrated articles will cost $2 each.

Spotify says the goal is to make long-form listening feel less intimidating and help users gradually move toward audiobooks and other extended audio content.

Long Reads Are Becoming Audio Content

The company says audiobook listening hours on the platform grew 60% between 2024 and 2025, with nearly half of audiobook listeners starting within the last year.

Instead of treating articles as text-only experiences, Spotify is now positioning magazine journalism as something users can consume while commuting, working out, folding laundry, or pretending to be productive.

The platform is essentially turning long reads into lightweight podcasts — minus the three-minute sponsor segment about mattresses and “building wealth.

Spotify Keeps Expanding Its Audio Ecosystem

The launch arrives alongside several other Spotify updates, including:

  • AI-powered music remix tools through a partnership with Universal Music Group
  • Artist verification badges
  • New Premium perks like early concert ticket access
  • Features supporting independent booksellers

Spotify is also celebrating its 20th anniversary and recently changed its iOS app icon to a disco-ball version temporarily, which immediately became a deeply emotional event for parts of the internet.
