Meta Forum App Brings Reddit-Style Discussions to Facebook Groups

Meta is quietly testing another social app idea because apparently one platform for endless scrolling was simply not enough.

The new Meta Forum app is a standalone discussion platform built around Facebook Groups, designed to support deeper conversations, community discussions, and AI-powered recommendations. The app appears to function similarly to Reddit, while still remaining tightly connected to Facebook’s ecosystem.

The app was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra and is currently available in limited regions on iOS.

TL;DR

  • Meta Forum App is Meta’s new Reddit-style discussion platform
  • The app is built around existing Facebook Groups
  • Users can post with nicknames instead of full identities
  • AI-powered “Ask” summarizes answers from discussions
  • Group admins get AI moderation tools
  • Meta continues its standalone app strategy with AI-heavy features

Facebook Groups Are Now Getting the Reddit Treatment

The app’s feed is centered around active group discussions rather than the endless algorithmic scroll Meta platforms are usually known for.

Or, in simpler terms, fewer random reels — more people arguing about keyboards, skincare, football, and local café recommendations for 47 comments straight.

Users can continue conversations across groups while keeping everything synced with Facebook itself. Meta says anything posted inside Forum will still appear within connected Facebook Groups.

Meta Is Adding AI Into Community Discussions Too

One of the bigger additions is an AI-powered “Ask” feature that pulls answers from discussions across multiple groups.

Instead of manually digging through old threads, users can ask questions and receive summarized responses generated from community conversations. It’s basically Reddit search, except the AI hopefully doesn’t lead you into a 2012 thread with broken image links and emotional damage.

Meta is also introducing AI tools for moderators. Group admins get an AI assistant that helps manage discussions, moderate content, and keep communities healthy.

Because apparently even moderators now need moderators.

Meta’s Standalone App Era Continues

The launch of Meta Forum follows the company’s recent push toward standalone apps.

Earlier, Meta released “Instants,” an app focused on disappearing photos that looked very familiar to anyone who has used Snapchat or BeReal recently.

Forum itself isn’t Meta’s first attempt at turning Groups into a separate product. The company previously launched a dedicated Facebook Groups app back in 2014 before shutting it down in 2017.

This time, though, AI is deeply integrated into the experience, which seems to be Meta’s preferred method of rebooting old ideas in 2026.

Meta Wants More Apps — A Lot More

According to recent reports, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been encouraging teams internally to launch more standalone apps as AI tools speed up product development.

For now, Meta Forum appears to be rolling out only in limited regions on iOS, with no broader global release announced yet.
